Skin problem?

Hi, I just wanted to know if yo-yo diets can create a similar effect to photo damage on the skin. Ive been on alot of yo-yo diets and regret it, but I have noticed that my facial skin tone is now uneven where it was once smooth, nothing drastic, but some areas are darker than others, like somoeone has very lightly shaded in patterns on my face also, veins around my eyes have become clearer and there is a faint blue line near my mouth which is not a vein.I have noticed that when I look closely at older people, I can see the same sort of thing on their face and hands. I am 20 years old, have dark skin and never go out in the sun, and the moisturiser I wear is spf20. I would be gratefull for any explanations people could offer, because I am truly stumped.
Skin problem?
don't stress, drink loads of wate, eat healthy nutritious food, and sleep. Skin has capacity to regenerate and will do so if you give it a chance and take good care, here is the article for glowing skin, all the best

yeah it does your diet has a VERY imortant affect on your skin and you might not notice you arent getting the itamins you need. Diets are tricky you should see a nutritionest.
Reply:The dark areas you have are probably just melasma and have nothing to do with diet but instead are due to hormones %26amp; genetics.

The example in the pic is extremely dark - mine's more subtle and just makes my complexion muddy, but I can see the splotches when I tilt my head. Mine didn't show up till I was about 25ish.

IF this is what it is (I guess you shouldn't take my word for it!), keep using your sunscreen every single day, and use a hydroquinone product sparingly at night. I use Philosophy "Pigment of your imagination" which is a strong hydroquinone. A one ounce bottle, although costing about $30, lasts me over six months... and I've got melasma all over my face. You don't need to use much, you just need to put it on every night for three to six weeks and be patient. It really will fade it. There are also vitamin-based preparations with SPF you can wear by day, that are supposed to help fade it, but they work even more slowly. Goodluck.
Reply:Avoid These Common Skin Care Mistakes

When is the last time you thought about caring for your facial skin? Are you stuck in a skin care rut? We asked two beauty experts for tips on how to approach changing your routine. The first step, they both said, is to avoid common skin care mistakes.

The experts: Tyrone Traylor is a New York city consultant, and Selene McCorquodale is lead esthetician at Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Banff Springs, in British Columbia.

Mistake: You use soap.

Solution: Switch to a gentle cleanser. "Soap completely dehydrates the skin," says McCorquodale. "It strips the skin of all natural oils, which we need. Soap is a detergent. It's better not to wash the face than to use soap."

Mistake: You don't wash your face when you should.

Solution: Don't wait until bedtime. "If you're not going out again, wash your face and apply your treatment products when you get home," McCorquodale says. "Wash your face even if you don't wear makeup -- you need to cleanse your skin of pollution, dust and recycled air from your office building."

"A lot of people have a morning routine but skip the nighttime," agrees Traylor. "It's more important at night. If you put it off until bedtime, you may be too tired."

Mistake: You don't use eye cream.

Solution: Splurge on a good eye cream and use it morning and night. "The eye area is the first part of your face that shows aging," says Traylor. "Products formulated for the area around your eyes give you more nutrients than your regular moisturizer. Look for something lightweight. I like Neutrogena's Visibly Firm. Avoid eye creams that are too greasy, they may cause puffiness."

Mistake: You drink diet soda instead of water.

Solution: Drink water. "Diet sodas actually dehydrate you," says Traylor. "People just don't drink enough water. Water is nature's solvent. It actually helps dissolve your skin problems from the inside out. It plumps the skin and helps circulation. You should drink enough water so that you are never actually thirsty."

Mistake: You don't use sunscreen every day.

Solution: Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 every day. "It's never too late to protect your skin from the sun," says McCorquodale. "Even when my clients start late, I notice a difference in their skin. Wear a sunblock every day to protect your skin from pre-mature wrinkling, age spots and a leathery texture. I like B. Kamins Day Cream SPF 15. It has a matte finish and makeup goes over it well."
