Sensitive skin...? I have the weirdest skin ever. I can't wear any jewelry around my wrist or neck...?

because it causes me to break out in hives. I've tried sterling silver, white gold, yellow gold and even platinum and my skin reacts to all of it. I can wear cheap, cheap earrrings in my ears without any problem unless they are hoops or something that touches my neck which is usually only a problem if I sleep in them. I can wear silver, gold, platinum on my fingers too without problems. The weirdest experience was with 2 different Fossil watches that I have. Thinking it was higher quality than other watches, I wore it for about two weeks and noticed that it started turning my wrist green. Upon further inspection, I realized that the metal band had tarnished and I think my skin had some sort of reaction with metal. Their bands are silver plated and has some other type of metal in the inside and my skin caused the silver plating to wear away exposing the inside which in turn caused my wrist to turn green. Anyone with a similar problem? Can anyone explain it?

Nickel is most likely the element that you are allergic to! There are regulations regarding nickel release rate in metals (basically...it has to be under a certain hundreth of a percent release to be considered nickel-free or hypo-allergenic) but some jewelry makers slip through the cracks.

As far as gold and the like...the higher the carat the higher the gold content alloy and the less of a chance of reaction. I'm not sure what you're tried out..but if you can step up to something "nicer" (which is not to say you've tried cheap stuff...but you know what i mean) you might find a winner.

If all else fails...you can wear acrylics on your wrist and neck. There are some very fashionable plastic pieces out there nowadays!

no but that really sucks. sorry.
Reply:Well, it sounds like eczema. It's why I haven't worn a watch in years. It doesn't have as much to do with the metal or other material as it does with the part of your body. It is always my wrist, no matter what I wear on it, cloth to metal. It's an allergic reaction.

Here's a handy little link that should answer a lot of questions if it is eczema.
Reply:I kind of can relate to you because I have eczema which is a skin disease. I am allergic to nickel like the buttons on jeans. I went to my doctor and he said elidel works well which is a special skin cream. Also if you go to your dermatologist he can probably help you.
Reply:Hunni, my friend Dan has the same problem, his trick is to put a thin layer of material or vaseline around the band....hope this helps////
